Wow, I haven't done an oekaki in years! And it would seem I haven't colored in months either.
Anyhoo, for those that don't know. Tis Cassandra Cain (Batgirl) and Stephanie Brown (Spoiler and once Robin). I wanted to work on profiles, and wanted to draw them differently. Not sure I succeeded. They look the same except for different coloring, hairstyles and expressions.

Also the second time I've drawn Cass with short hair. I"m used to drawing her with longer hair. I tried imitating the pixie haircut she's got in Batman and the Outsiders, but can't seem to pull it off on oekaki. weird. Hm, need to oekaki more....get back into the hang of coloring again.
In other news, I'm so sad to see Chris Batista go. He drew a beautiful Tim Drake and Robin. Also drew a lovely teenage Spoiler. She actually has the body of a teenager and the costume looks great! *sighs* This Joe Bennett though...Well, I wonder how good he is at drawing teenagers...(get the feeling we'll be getting an older than they're supposed to be Robin and Spoiler this month). *sighs*
Well, at least writing-wise, it won't suck. Fabian's been known to be a good writer and his comments/answers to the Robin QnA have been very interesting and positive.
*sniffles* if only Batgirl had a writer just as good...*tries not to cry* Oh, Cass! What is DC ultimately going to do with you?
Oh well. In the meantime, I'll be comforting myself by working on this pic...
(P.S. I haven't abandoned my fic, just tweaking the next chapter...)

Next up is Stephanie again. This one was inspired by the Robin/Spoiler special that came out right before her creator Dixon got let go. *shaking head* That was weird. At any rate, I was rather disheartened by the news and gave up on the drawing for a few weeks. But then I got inspired again, don't remember what did it. But yeah, wanted to finish it. Right now her shoulders are bugging me (I gave up on her legs). It's going to be part of a bigger image, but yeah, just wanted to get a second or third pair of eyes on it. HELP Please?

Help on the sketch... hm. Well, for the shoulders, one of them is closer to her body, leaving the other side looking broader and the angles of the lines connecting shoulder to neck different. It looks like you want her right arm (on our left) to look like it's behind her as arms swing when walking. You'll want to nix that line from the inside bicep towards the shoulder and put the torso in front, using a single line to create the armpit rather than the multiple ones there now. I also think having the arm a little closer to the body would look more natural; the hand should be right next to the hip, or you can partially obscure it behind the hip if you don't want to redraw it (dunno what to say about avoiding a redraw of that beautiful fabric though >.< do you have any tracing paper?). Bending the elbow more to accommodate this different hand position would also help the bone structure there. The arm is a bit stiff-looking as is because it’s extended straight out.
Moving to her left arm, the lower half looks great. Especially like that it’s overlapping her hip. The hand looks awesome. The upper arm is a little too narrow-- I'd widen the outside a little, and give the inside of the bicep just a touch of overlap over her breast to help accentuate its forwardness. Lower the breasts just a little, and let's see some hip action! The hip of the forward leg should be higher than the hip of the rear leg. Crotch a little lower, and I think the legs can be fixed with just a couple of adjustments, actually. The forward thigh should overlap the rear one a little, and the thigh should grow from the crease in the crotch (this is part of the reason it should be a little lower). And then don't let the flare of the pants leg for the rear leg overlap the leg that's in front, as it's doing just a little here ~_^ You don't need quite so much bunching and creasing of fabric at the rear knee-- it's making her kneecap look too small.
Final nitpick, I'd like to see just a little more hair by her left shoulder; the way the length tapers inward to the shoulder and then cuts back out for that long curl is doing funny things to it. Alternatively, if you want the hair looking shorter than that, erase the bottom two long curls and leave just that teeny little flip.
I also have to reiterate that the cloth is gorgeous x-X GAH I WISH I COULD DRAW FABRIC LIKE THAT. I hope that wasn't too much critique-- you only mentioned wanting help on the shoulders >.< -- because all in all your drawing skills are still enviable. Proportions overall look good, head a good size and really nice expression and hands. I look forward to seeing a more finished version of this!
Thank you so much for the help though! I don't know if I got all that but when I go back to working on it, I'll get back to you with questions. I think for now, this helps though. :)
As for Steph's hair, her hair's kinda wild too. All artists tend to draw her hair as having a life of its own. LOL, (just like the cape!) so I tried to convey that here. She's a wild child, but a pretty one, so I didn't want to go for entirely realistic hair. I don't normally draw hair like that anyways, but yeah, I wanted it to look uneven, curled and uh...alive. XD Sorry 'bout that. ^^;
But thank you so much! ^o^ Dunno when I'll get back to it (dumb artist block) but I'll keep ya updated. :)
Seconding the love for the expressions. You've an awesome talent for it :D
For my own curiosity (and mental sanity), I happen to have a Wacom GT me too: how the Hell did you Cass's hair? It's amazing!
The outlines are great.
I absolutely, positively adore this! I love how different Steph and Cass' expressions are. Your coloring really brings out their cute'ness too <3 The second one is really lovely too. For some reason your style reminds of the the art in the Robin/Spoiler comic that came out a month or two ago. I thought that artist did a remarkably cute Steph too. Anyways, it's hard to find good Steph fanart out there, I hope you make more <3
Was wondering if I could add these two to the Steph Wiki fanart section to accompany the other one?
